I'll tell you what's really bizarre, Ian Whates and Ian Watson both have stories on the shortlist too, so I'm in the weird position of being up against my publisher and editors, and Ian Whates is in the odd position of being up against stories in two of his own publications.

Here's hoping it surprises you by winning.

Thanks, Jean Marie! It would be a hell of a surprise if it did win. It does remind me, though, that I showed Teri an early draft and she said she thought it was an award-winner. I demurred and...well, you know how Teri reacted to people who demur.

That is extraordinarily wonderful and excellent to hear -- and a recognition that's very, very long overdue. Huge congratulations! Best bit of news I've heard in a while.

Thanks, Paul. It's the best bit of news I've heard for a while, too. I can't see it winning - I'm reliably informed that it only just squeaked onto the shortlist and it's up against some very stiff competition - but it's brilliant to be nominated.

Thanks, K! But I'm not doing any chicken-counting - every other story on the shortlist is an absolute gem, so I think The Push's chances are vanishingly slim.
