A note from the producer of The Trauma Jockey (and I'm still astounded they haven't thought of another title) informs me that the screenplay now has `elements of Se7en, The Silence Of The Lambs and Children Of Men. The (still sadly-LJless) OJM tells me how this could work, and I see her point, but I have a feeling that I'm watching the original story gently evaporating into nonexistence. Do I care? No, I do not. Someone took me seriously enough to option one of my stories, and that, best beloved, is unique in my experience. I'm having the time of my life here. Last week, rather drunk with a friend of mine, I succumbed to hubris and cast the movie. Nathan Fillion and Robert Downey, Jnr, featured large. Oh brave new world that has such people in't...

*snicker*
How could you avoid casting the movie? I do that with books that haven't been optioned.
Big hugs to you and B,
Jean Marie

I've been trying to avoid casting the movie precisely because I don't want to get over-excited about the whole thing. I want to be sensible about this. But...dammit...I couldn't help myself... And then we went through which directors I should tell them to hire, oh it was just madness, it really was.

Oh my word yes. I mean, my friend hasn't even read the story and we spent about three hours casting the movie, choosing the director...we even decided we wanted Janusz Kaminski as cinematographer. As if anyone but Steven Spielberg can afford him these days. If I'd stayed there any longer we'd have been arguing about second unit and makeup.
I'm desperately trying to hang on to a sensible perspective here. As an example, Scott Frank, who screenwrote Get Shorty and Minority Report, spent about ten years getting his writing/directing debut The Lookout produced. If it's that hard for him, what are my chances?
I want to be realistic and I don't want to get enormously excited about something which may never reach the screen. But just occasionally I do lose my mind, and I start to cast and crew the entire movie. And I really have to stop doing that.

But if it does get produced...and filmed...and released, Greg and I wanna attend the premiere. ESPECIALLY if it means booking a trip to England. Got to make up for the missed 2005 WorldCon somehow. :D
Madness is good. Just as long as you don't depend on it. Greg and I once plotted out an entire Indiana Jones/Holy Grail adventure the night after we saw Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time. When the real thing was released many years later, it was a hoot to see where our "script" diverged. We never saw Sean Connery coming. But that was more than okay.
Hugs,
Jean Marie

Of course you and Greg are invited, although I suspect the premiere will be in the States somewhere.
The same friend and I plotted a sequel to the first Tim Burton Batman movie, years ago. It was nothing like the one they eventually came up with.
Big Hugs.

Actually, we took it very seriously as a study of a very psychologically-damaged individual. Michelle Pfeiffer did not feature. We sent it to Fox, too. They sent it back.

They sent it back with a note that read, `this is being returned unread,' just in case anything we'd written happened to find its way, by synchronicity and coincidence, into the sequel. Which it didn't, by the way, but I was touched that they took the precaution. God but we were full of hubris; as if a major Hollywood studio would take a pair of drunken North Londoners seriously.

Okay, I do LOL, I do ROFLOL, but what in the name of Humanity is ROFLOLWTIME? You've used most of the keyboard for that one. Admit it, you just made that up, didn't you.
Big Hugs.

It's legit. ROFLOLWTIME translates to Rolling On Floor, Laughing Out Loud, With Tears In My Eyes
You should be glad I didn't add LMAOPIP to that. :D Ah, the joys of a fan board education.
Hugs and grins,
Jean Marie

It is a learning experience, it is true.
Does the fact that I can guess what LMAOPIP is mean that I'm getting the hang of this, or just that I'm mildly depraved?
