Put up the maypole, string the bunting, roll out the barrel, get some chocolate and Guinness for Lili, mix up a bathtub of daiquiris for Selkie, put a *snigger* decaffeinated teabag in a cup for Thog, and essay the ancient barbershop quartet of greeting (found by Stephen Hawking embedded in the Fibonacci Series) for teacher_bear is among us. Welcome, Dave. Now you can witness first-hand the madness you've previously only heard about from artykat.
teacher_bear almost certainly didn't realise (I have to admit I almost forgot, things have been a bit mad at work and at home this week) but he arrives on an auspicious occasion, for today (tomorrow, for those of you on the other side of the village pond) marks the second anniversary of the foundation of the villages.
Yes, folks, it's Founder's Day.
Here's my first post, weighted with the prescience which has since become such a trademark of the villages, usually in relation to politics. Although, to be fair, this was in the days before I was introduced to LOLcats. It seems a very long time ago, when it was just me and jmward14 and the qnotku and the (still sadly-LJless) OJM. We've come a long way since the days when I didn't even know what ROFLOL meant and I was having panic attacks because I didn't know how to insert italics.
If you'll allow me a moment of maudlin sentimentality, I'll raise a glass to all villagers, whether you take part in the general knockabout or you watch from a distance. I'm proud to be in the company of such a bunch of good people. Here's to you, and all best wishes.
Now let's PARTY!!!!

cool cool cool. SO glad that you are here, and that there was a first day. And glad that my Bear is now amongst the Villagers.

And I will need a drink, and I'll be dancing in my chair. I can do a mean macarana. *snort*

"put a *snigger* decaffeinated teabag in a cup for Thog"

Snigger right back at ya. I'm now officially back on THE REAL STUFF. Over three months now since they made me into Imitation Roadkill[TM], so I'm laying into the Tetley's British Blend with a vengeance!

Jane brought over some Red Bush Tea (not actually tea, but tealike), as featured in the Alexander McCall Smith #1 Ladies' Detective Agency novels (none of which I've read); her reasoning was that it doesn't have caffeine and I should try it. After gagging over the first few gulps, I've come to like it as an occasional alternative and plan to pick some up when we're across for FantasyCon -- it seems unheard-of in the US, despite the massive popularity here of the McCall Smith books. It's about the first Tealike Substance I've ever enjoyed, probably the first.

I'm not the only expat who favours Tetley's British Blend. I happen to know that it's teacher_bear's tipple too -- that is, when he's not at PARTIES like this one, when he's fighting with the Selkster over who gets to jump into the daiquiris first.

There's a good reason why ruriboos isn't terribly popular in the US. Like a lot of herbal infusions, some folks have terrible reactions to it. I'm one of them. Of course, I can't handle medicinal zinc either. Since a lot of folks tout ruriboos as a cold remedy, I suspect the two allergies are related.
Hugs and smiles,

Okay, I was a late-adopter. I sort of lurked around brisingamen's LJ for a year or so before I got up the courage to do my own.

Many thanks!
You put italics into the comment box the same way you put them into a post. I can't actually show you because if I type it out it'll just...make italics. But it goes: open pointy bracket, i, close pointy bracket, type in what you want to italicise, open pointy bracket, /, i, close pointy bracket.
If I remember correctly, jmward14 had to explain to me how to do it, and once she did I was set up for life.
