The Guardian is reporting that the Australian Navy will be getting a two-month holiday over Christmas. Now is the time to invade, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. I plan to rename the country `Hutchland,' I will make my capital at Coober Pedy, and Elle McPherson shall be my Queen.

What? You're not going to be the Queen? What will we do . . .?

Say, can I be your Second in Command? Then we can expand and take over New Zealand, which is really where I'd rather be.

Coober Pedy used to have some lovely black opals in its mines. I wonder if the mines have yielded all their bounty?

Of course you can be Second-in-Command, glad to have you aboard. I have my eye on New Zealand, as well. Also Tasmania and Antarctica. Antarctica should be a walkover; they don't have any armed forces.
I don't know whether Coober Pedy is mined-out yet or not - I suspect not. As Second-in-Command, you would of course have sole mineral rights. I just wanted my capital there because that's where they filmed Beyond Thunderdome and it looks well cool.

Mad Hutch, Road Warrior King of Coober Pedy and Beyond.

Antarctica has Emperor Penguins, hasn't it? And hot headed moles that can burrow up through the snow and ice and eat a man alive where he stands.

I'll take the Coober Pedy detail, thanks muchos.

Wait a minute . . . who gets South Wales? Me or Pam? And anyway she thinks we sound like, well, toilet lemmings. Hm. Like we don't know what toilet lemmings are.

You get New South Wales, should you want it, having already cornered the world market in black opals.
I have no idea what a toilet lemming is, but it's an image which is going to fester.

There will only be one Emperor in Antarctica, and it won't be no penguin. Our Imperial forces will deal with the moles as and when.
You're welcome. You can also have New South Wales.

You say that now. It's when you're surrounded and they introduce themselves with "I am Penguin Sek!" "I am Penguin Thay!" that you'll be sorry.

"Antarctica should be a walkover; they don't have any armed forces."

But they do have various Lovecraftian Old Ones entombed under the timeless snows, don't they? Those could be a bit of a hazard -- vaster than empires and more vicious, sort of thing.

The Elder Ones don't stand a chance against post menopausal women.

And why shouldn't he be? After all, if you're going to do this right, it's a matter of paying tribute to the greatest Australian road movie ever made.

And the really scary thing is just how good Terry Stamp was. It is a great film indeed, but the greatest road movie ever to emerge from Down Under is a New Zealand film called Goodbye Pork Pie. A little gem.
