Deck the village hall with holly and ivy and some of those paper chain things. Open a keg and fill a paddling pool with some of that punch. Light candles, sing hey nonny and pray join me in the Ancient Tap Dance Of Welcome (discovered written on a packet of Rizla Papers in a safety deposit box at the Bank Of England) for danacea is among us. Welcome, Danie.

I'd never heard of Twilight

I'd never heard of it either until, not long after my open heart surgery (pass the violin, please) pds_lit propped me up in a Borders while she went off to do Important Things for an hour or two in a nearby quilt shop. After I'd spent as long as possible buying a couple of books (one of them was John Gribbin's The Scientists, as I recall), I hobbled over to the stand by the entrance, which I leaned against thinking it'd be convenient for the emergency services if I did my collapsing there.

Understandably, I began looking at the books there -- or "lead titles", as Borders called them. One was the latest volume in the Twilight series. When I spotted there were other volumes in the display I was amazed I'd never heard of these books before. I read a few pages of the new vol and was even more amazed. It's kind of Laurell K. Hamilton for the prepubescent. I had never thought there'd be another author who'd make Laurell K. Hamilton seem vaguely tolerable . . .

Luckily pds_lit rescued me around then, marching me to the car and then going back to pick up the stitches I'd dropped.

Stephenie Meyers is laughing all the way to the bank.

Same old vampire stuff, only hers are sanitized. They're Mormon vampires. (What will they think of next, hm?) Meyers is a Mormon, and the only way she can write vampire romance is to make vampires not vampires anymore. They don't drink blood, they don't have victims, and they can hang out in the sunlight. Oh well. YA.

I can't read any of that supernatural romance klap-trap.

You're dang right, she is. All the way to the bank several times in fact.

I can't stand it either, and I'm dumbfounded by the mania surrounding it.

You trouper! Nothing stands between Thog and book-buying!
From what I can gather from a quick google, the Twilight books a very popular. But, I gather, not very good. Still, that didn't stand in the way of D*n B***n.
