Here's one to give the cockles of the hearts of amateurs everywhere a nice warm feeling. Greg Parker's budget probably wouldn't even cover a fraction of Nasa's coffee money, but as the Telegraph reports, with a 11-inch telescope in his back garden and a special digital camera he's captured extraordinary astronomical images, including one of a quasar 12 billion light years away. 'Nuff respect.
