Okay, I admit it. I've been living a secret double life. I'm on Facebook, as some of you know already. I wasn't going to get involved in the damn thing, particularly after my encounter with MySpace (I still have a page, and it still scares me) but a year or so ago a friend of ours who retired to France was invited to join by her nephew as a means of keeping in touch and once she'd joined she decided to invite her eddress book to join as well. So I got an invite, and I thought, "why not?"
Anyway, I've barely touched the thing since then. marlowe1 tracked me down a while ago, and after he did I sort of poked and prodded it for a while, then I forgot about it. But a couple of months ago I came across the bookmark and decided to poke and prod it some more, and now I have friends and stuff, and I still don't know what it's for. LJ suits me very well indeed; it lets me mumble and ramble to my heart's content, and I feel part of a real community the way I can't imagine feeling on Facebook. I'm going to give Facebook a chance and see what I can do with it, but really you know I just like sitting here in the villages and babbling, and I'm not going to stop doing that any time soon.

I'd watch out out for that poking and prodding behavior, if I were you, might get you into trouble.

I too have a Facebook page, but I'm seldom there. Once in a while someone friends me, and if he or she doesn't look like a hatchet killer I friend them back. But then I get all these stupid invitations for activities and such, which drive me insane. But anyway, what's your Facebook handle? Mine is Jody Rose. Imagine that? What say we friend each other?

I think I found you at facebook, Hutch, but with the exception of the pic of your cat the page is tabula rasa.

I am, for my sins, Dave Hutchinson. If there's a cat on the page, it'll be me. Give me a couple of minutes and I'll friend you and you can look in awe at my total lack of activity (although I have been joining some author fan-groups tonight)

I'm on Facebook too, but feel much the same as you. I just don't know what to do with it. I much prefer LJ, and am SO glad to know you are sticking around to mumble, babble and ramble.

Ooh, are you? I might drop in, but really I can't see me doing anything substantive with it. Might come in handy if I ever have another book to push, but I can do that very happily on LJ. And besides, you're all accustomed to my peculiar little ways by now...

I've recently been instructed by a friend to join LinkedIn, and have since been befriended there by another (whom you might remember from Microcon, Hutch: Rowan Wilson).

However, like you with Facebjork, I'm still puzzled as to what it's actually for. I've addressed this urgent question to the pal who originally hooked me up, but so far he has dynamically not answered; it has crossed my mind that he, too, has no idea what . . .

The name Rowan Wilson certainly rings a bell, although I'm afraid I can't bring a face to mind.
I think two social networking sites is about my limit at the moment; I'll stick with LJ and Facebook. I discovered last night that Annie's on Facebook too, so I friended her.

"I discovered last night that Annie's on Facebook"

That's the first good thing I've heard about Facebook . . .

"blackmore's night"

By the way, try the new Dido: it might take you until halfway through the second play to realize how gobsmackingly wonderful it is, or it might not.

You'll forgive me for saying that I initially misread the line, `try the new Dido.'

I'm there too, but I can't seem to locate friends without going into "Friends Finder", which I don't trust. Tried searching for you, but they gave me 500 results--all of them "David Hutchinson". Anyway, I'm "Jean Marie Ward". Similar lack of imagination, I suspect. :D
Hugs and smiles,
Jean Marie

Not to worry; I found you. I'm actually registered as Dave Hutchinson. Would that make a difference?

Same story here, I'm on Facebook but can't be arsed with it. People friend me, I friend 'em back. That's it. I think I'm "Michael Stone" on there.
