On the other hand, a few years ago people were saying the same thing about David Tennant. Smith's an interesting choice. We'll see.

I've never heard of him! What can you tell me about this actor?

You're not the only person who's never heard of him, trust me. But he's done some very good work on stage (The History Boys for instance) and he's done a few series on telly. I actually met him a couple of years ago at the launch of Party Animals; he seemed a nice enough bloke and not a bad actor, but he wasn't carrying the series. We'll have to wait and see how he copes with The Doctor.

Thank you! We watched the movie of The History Boys (really enjoyed it too) but Matthew Smith wasn't in it. I am looking forward to see how he copes with being Dr. Who. Like Tom Baker, I think David Tennant will be a hard act to follow...

There were a number of different casts during the stage run of The History Boys, and not all the cast members made it into the film. I still haven't seen it, but I've heard it's good.
You're right; those are big sneakers to fill.

Too right! They should bring back William Hartnell, is what I say!

Ach, you'd probably prefer Adam Adamant.

He does seem to be pretty much entirely retired now. And at the age of 80, who can blame him?

You guys make me feel old! (OK, so I am!) I remember Adam Adamant. Wasn't he a Victorian detective who had slept for a long time?

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a fraud - I know of Adam Adamant, but I never saw it. Yes, I think he was frozen or something and woke up in Swinging Sixties London.
