Sad news that Patrick McGoohan, star of Danger Man and The Prisoner and the best thing about Ice Station Zebra, has died at the age of 80, following a short illness. He also turned up quite often in Columbo, a number of episodes of which he produced and very ably directed.

Oh, this is sad news. I had such a crush on him when I was a teenager.

I used to love Danger Man, partly because it had one of the coolest theme tunes I'd ever heard, but mostly because McGoohan was so good. Did you know he was considered for Bond when they were making Dr No?

I didn't know that bit of info about McGoohan, but he'd have made a cool Bond.

The tune was "Secret Agent Man", wasn't it?

Obviously, Cubby Broccoli made the right decision in the end, but I'd have loved to have seen McGoohan play Bond.
I believe the theme tune over here was different to the one they used when the show aired in the States. The original was called, I think, `High Wire,' and it sounds like this.

Over here the show was called "Secret Agent Man" and Johnny Rivers sang the theme song. Both were a big hit in the states.

McGoohan would have been terrific as Bond. I thought he was sexier than Connery; but then, I saw Connery jogging down Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs one day, back in the eighties, and can tell you he looks more handsome in person than on screen.

Yes, I'd heard it was called that, and I believe the theme tune was called that also, but I'm not sure.

And Connery's good-looking enough on screen. I always thought he got better-looking with age.

Yes, rather sad. And now I can't drop in and ask him what he was on about with "The Prisoner". The themes are sort of clear, but I'd have liked to know from the horses mouth.

Kind of gives the remake a bittersweet taste.
