Just a quick note to say I want to commend David Peace's novel The Damned United, which is about Brian Clough's insane decision to manage Leeds United in 1974 and his forty-two days there. It's an extraordinary thing. I haven't read anything like it since Gordon Burn's Happy Like Murderers, about the Wests. People have compared Peace to James Ellroy, but he's different. Read it, even if you know nothing about football.
