A while ago, Lou Anders suggested that I get myself a website and post some stories on it. Those of you who visited the Village Library on LJ will remember it wasn't wildly satisfactory, partly because I had to split the only story I managed to post on it into big unwieldy chunks, which I found annoying. I gave up, mostly because I had other stuff to worry about.
And then a couple of days ago I noticed that Google is giving away free webspace for people to put sites on, so I thought I'd have a go.
I still haven't quite got it the way it should be - I'm not a website designer, but I managed to knock something together with some stories and a page devoted to shameless marketing finding more of my work.
Anyway, it's here.

In other news, there's not a lot of snow here yet - at least not where we are - but it's coming.

I shall ask my (swank, swank) webmistress to sort this out.

I'll ask my webmaster to add a link to you from mylefteye.net. I probably don't get any traffic but that's what webmasters are for -- to tell you your site is getting hundreds, nay thousands of hits! Daily!!

Would you like a mutual link with johngrantpaulbarnett.com, too?

Certainly, sir! If it's okay by you I'll use two links, one each for John Grant and Paul Barnett. The menu bar probably wouldn't allow for both names side-by-side. My name is Michael Stone www.mylefteye.net. I don't know when my webman will get it done, but the links will appear eventually, I promise.

I'm most touched. Thank you. And I'll add links to your sites here. And I'll do it all myself. Webmasters. Hah!

"Wimp. I have to do it all myself."

Jealous? It's because of my proven ass-handling skills, see?

You're of course referring to the wood box . . .

Many thanks. It's still not quite right, but it can stay this way for a while.

I was impressed with it, and even stopped to read some. I plan to go back to it to finish.

BTW We have had snow all day, and it is accumulating quite a bit here. May have a snow day tomorrow!

Well thank you! It was my first try (after the villages) at setting up a website, and it doesn't have all the user-friendly features of LJ, but I'm still getting used to working with it, so I'm hoping to tart it up a bit in months to come.

Have you considered contributing to the Baen Free Library?

http://www.baen.com/library/

Eric Flint's introduction to (and rationale for the existence of) the Library is quite illuminating.

Very interesting; thanks for that. I'd heard of Baen, but I'd never heard of the Free Library. Yes, that could do with some investigation.
BTW, NewCon has been cancelled this year because of uncertainty surrounding the venue.

Shame about NewCon; fingers crossed for next year then.

BTW - if you want any assistance with your new site, fire an email at me. My HTML kung-fu isn't as strong as it once was, but I haven't yet forgotten everything I learned from building a corporate intranet in one of my past jobs.

They're certainly hoping that everything will be sorted out with the Fishmarket for next year.
That's very kind of you. I don't know; take a look at it and tell me what you think it needs. One thing that springs to mind immediately is that I seem unable to post links there, just paste in urls. I don't have your eddress (I don't think) but I can get in touch on the LJ message thingy.
