Aye-Aye

no contest

So, we have a new Prime Minister. And we haven't even got rid of the old one yet.
The attempt by some members of the Labour Left to raise some kind of challenge to Gordon Brown's candidacy foundered embarrassingly, so we will have a coronation rather than a contest. I am really really annoyed about this. At least when Thatcher faced her Night Of The Long Knives there was a leadership contest afterwards; we've got Gordon Brown as Prime Minister, if the old stories are to be believed, chiefly because of a deal he and Tony made in a restaurant in Islington before Labour even came to power. God, he looked so smug today.
On the other hand, I'm watching the breaking news about Paul Wolfowitz's resignation from the World Bank right now, so the day hasn't been a complete loss.
