Aye-Aye

it must have been a hell of a party...

Following the election of new Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who put his hands up to a drunken visit to a lapdancing club in New York, another Australian politician has been outed for having rather too much of a good time. Nigel Scullion wound up stripped to his underpants and handcuffed to a pole dancing pole during a visit to a Russian strip club.
What I love about Rudd and Scullion is the way they haven't tried to sleaze their way out of it. Rudd basically said he was too drunk to remember what had happened, and Scullion said, "It was a terrific night. If you ever get an offer to go drinking with Icelandic whalers and Canadian crab fishermen, take them up on it."
Very hard to imagine, say, Jack Straw or Gordon Brown being that honest.

terry pratchett

I just saw on Boing Boing that Terry Pratchett has released a statement saying he's been diagnosed with a rare form of early-onset Alzheimer's. He describes it as `an embuggerance,' which is a great deal more polite than I would be.
