I suppose I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I noticed today's New York Times
article about J Edgar Hoover's plan to jail around 12,000 Americans
back in 1950.
Then I noticed an article in today's Sunday Times
about Gordon Brown's plans to bring in new powers to confiscate people's passports.
Now, the courts can already take away your passport - say if you're a drug dealer or a football hooligan - but Brown's plan would allow your passport to be forfeited without going through the courts.
Nothing much changes, does it?
