It seems that Conrad Black has not given up hope of getting his fleeting moment of brutish triumph. It's being reported that Lord Black is petitioning President Bush for a commutation of his sentence. He's not alone, obviously, and the percentages are not with him - the US Pardon Attorney has received some 10,000 petitions, of which just 163 have resulted in Presidential action. Still, Conrad probably thinks his chances are better with the outgoing Monkey King than they would be with President Obama.
The prisoner formerly known as Lord Black offers us this disquisiton on US jurisprudence. My favourite line involves his magnificent wife Barbara, `who visits me once, twice or even three times each week and lives nearby in our Florida home with her splendid Hungarian dogs.' My second favourite line involves a job offer from Lord Hurd.
