the usual late-night friday stuff...

I popped down to the Virgin Megastore after work tonight, just to see what they had on the shelves. Usually fishing expeditions like this wind up with me going home empty-handed, but tonight I abused my credit card until it shrieked like a banshee. I bought a lot of Vaughan Williams CDs, but the great discovery is that they've started to reissue Family albums.
For those on the other side of the village pond - and I suppose those on this side, too - Family are one of the great lost bands of British rock history, blessed with the unique voice of Roger Chapman, and the Megastore not only had a copy of their extraordinary first album, Music In a Doll's House, but also a two-disc collection which, on first listening, sounds definitive. Oh, I came home happy, let me tell you, which is not my usual reaction to a Friday evening on the Underground. I haven't heard some of this stuff since I was at school, and it's as good now as it was then.
