This year, the British Science Fiction Association celebrates its fiftieth birthday (which means, if we believe the information in an earlier post, it'll start to get much happier now) and to mark the occasion the mighty NewCon Press will be launching two new anthologies at EasterCon. Have a look, and see if you can spot the odd man out.

Oo! The Anne Sudworth cover, you mean?

That's it. Actually, joking apart, Bogna will probably want that book just for the cover. Like all Annie's paintings, it's quite lovely.

However, it'll be the book with the Vinnie Chong cover that's the real collectible, thanks to the Hutch story in it . . .

Huge congrats on this, ol' bean.

Nope, `The Push' is destined for Something Else. No, this is something I wrote specially for Ian, and looking at the contributor list I wish I'd done a better job.

It's not self-denigration. Them's some hefty writers to stand alongside and I wish I'd done a better job. Mind you, at the time I was out of my mind with joy to have finished anything at all. Anyway. Done now, delivered, edited. Done with engines.

As an aside, LJ isn't listing my messages again. I'm having to check all my posts to see if anyone's replied. Is this happening to anyone else? It's beginning to annoy me.

Many thanks. I'm not perhaps such an email junkie; I just find it easier to leave the Messages page up and refresh it occasionally to see if anyone's popped in. Maybe the system's got wise to that and decided to start teasing me...

Go {{{{{hutch0}}}}}! Can't wait to read the story...oh, and buy the anthology too. :D
Congrats on the new icon too. What is it? Some kind of big-eared bat?
Hugs and smiles,
Jean Marie

Thanks {{{{pds_lit}}}}! I must be looking in the wrong place, though. I found the golden frogs, the trained cats and the elephant shrews, but no whatsis. :-( Where am I going wrong?
Hugs,
Jean Marie

It is, as you've probably already found out, a kind of jerboa or desert rat. Many thanks for the kind wishes and hugs and stuff. And it hits the street at Easter! Isn't that amazing? An anthology that doesn't take four years to come out?

Yeah, it is. But I've found amazing things can be accomplished, publication-wise, when people have a frantic need to do something in a hurry for a major organizational anniversary. The Fed was the same way. Moves like molasses except when there's a need/opportunity for self-congratulations.
Hugs and smiles,
Jean Marie

Probably true, but NewCon seem to be a hugely efficient operation anyway, thanks in no small part to its publisher, Ian Whates, a man of seemingly limitless enthusiasm and good humour. Sort of the anti-hutch.
