Bogna just burst in to tell me that it's on the news that Arthur C Clarke has died. I know he was 90, and he'd not been well for a very long time, but it's still something of a shock. I kind of expected him to be there for ever. He was among the first science fiction writers I ever read - and for a long time he was the only non-American I read. I still read A Fall Of Moondust and The City And The Stars every now and again, both, in their own ways, deceptively straightforward pieces of writing that hid some rather mighty thinking. We sometimes say `We'll never see his/her like again.' In this case, I think it may be true.
