Finally for this evening, I'm indebted to realthog for this, which details what one of the world's biggest x-ray machines should really be used for. Brilliant stuff. Sod exploring the Solar System; we need more of this.

Oh, I was expecting something else.
If you really want a colossal x-ray machine, how about the military one they used to x-ray Mons meg back in the 80#s or so. They used a 12 megavolt linear accelerator, and the fillm was of a size of 35 by 43cm. Now thats a large x-ray device.

(Have I mentioned I have what is certainly the definitive book on bombards in the entire planet?)

On the other hand, using the synchrotron does give you much greater accuracy due to the godo quality beam and high power.
