Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, pray tap the keg, pop the cork, do whatever it is you do with daiquiris, and dance the ancient Dance Of Welcome - long proscribed by the Church of England and certain sections of the Church of Latter Day Saints - for robsoft. Welcome, Rob.

Looking at your flist, I reckon it would have been through brisingamen, whom I found through the redoubtable burkesworks. How I ever found him, I have no idea, but there you go. You know how these things work out.

It was only when reading your Bio I realised the Sheffield connection (born down in Truro to a father from Attercliffe, a mother from Apperknowle) - we moved from Cornwall to Sheffield when I was about 10 and I spent my teenage years (mid to late 80s) growing up there.

I'm in the middle of a particularly stupid 'death march' on a project at the moment which has greatly impacted my posting regime, but I don't think anyone has actually noticed, so...

Thanks again for the welcome. There is a definite literary vibe going on here. I feel intellectually stimulated already, and saying something given the bloody day I've had.

I find these connections interesting; it's as if there's a weird form of Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon going on. I kind of like that.
Yeah, it could be a bit more literary, considering. All I seem to be doing at the moment is posting LOLcats and getting annoyed at stuff.
We probably just missed each other in Sheffield; I moved down here in '84. Whereabouts were you?

The connections /are/ interesting, aren't they?

We lived in Dronfield to start with, then when I started at Sheffield Poly (pretty sure it was still the Poly, this would have been around 89 so was possibly in the the throes of changing it's name) I moved to a typical ground-floor pseudo-bedsit on London Road. It was handy for late night food and midweek visits to Blades' games, when I had the spare cash. So not that often at all then, really.

I popped off to That London in mid 91 to work for BT for a few years (a sandwich placement gone horribly right kind of scenario - never did bother finishing the degree) but came back late 94, at first to the wrinklies' place in Dronfield, then eventually to Psalter Lane (I was working for a software/lab-instrument company up there). Used to spend many an hour in the Psalter Tavern. Moved to Cheshire for a job in about 98 and been here or hereabouts ever since.

I only get back to Sheffield about twice a year; my Dad died a while ago and my Mum moved to Chapeltown, to be nearer my sister and her family. My brother lives somewhere just off London Road (again). Most of my mother's family are in the Sheffield/Chesterfield area, there's not all that much left of my father's family and they're not so local.

Where did you move 'down' from? And whereabouts (roughly) are you now?

Edit: Sorry, didn't read the bio carefully enough to start with.

I was brought up in Killamarsh. Both my parents are dead now, but my brother's still up there. I don't know Dronfield well, but I've certainly been through it on occasion.
