There are, quite honestly, days when words fail me... ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/6264255.stm)

This is one of the reasons I never doubted we descended from the apes--or that descent was the right word. Or that some of us never evolved at all.

It just makes me despair.

In a way, it makes one long for the days when everyone was in everyone else's business. Had people really bothered to know their neighbors, perhaps the truth would have been more easily telegraphed. The residents would have had more people "on their side" to help quell the rumors. The neighbors would have felt safer, without even the tiniest niggling doubt. The vigilantes might not have developed the plan, because their concerns would have been heard in the first place.

We are so insulated and sanitized from each other, we think we're safer. It just makes for more opportunities for misunderstandings, misunderstanding that can lead to such sickening violence.

I think there are just some people who will grab any excuse at all to be absolute assholes, so long as it makes them look as if they're `upholding the law.' I recall an incident a couple of years ago where a crowd of anti-paedophile protestors (okay, a baying mob is what it really was) attacked the home of a paediatrician. Hand to god.
I just emailed you. Get an LJ (you know I'll keep being annoying until you do. And then I'll just keep being anoying.)

I'm much more into privacy and simplicity than one might think.

Privacy, yes. Simplicity? Never.

While it certainly appears that some people to get there jollies from being @$$holes, there are ALWAYS reasons why they got to that point. Were we, as a human race, committed to minimizing those circumstances, the number of @$$holism would be minimized.

PS Will me getting a LJ addr save the rest of your blog-readers the tiresome palaver of ancient acquaintances? If so, then I shall do it. If not, you'll just have to check your regular email more often. So there.

Of course, as a race we're not committed to minimizing the circumstances. It does my head in.
I don't know if you noticed, but of the very few people who stop by and say hello, most of them are women, and about two-thirds of them are called Jean Marie, so if you don't mind, for my own sanity I'll refer to you as JMW and JMQ. Please don't gang up on me.
I just thought you might find it fun to get an LJ; I thought I'd hate it when I started out, but I am rather enjoying it. The bits I've seen are rather more dignified than MySpace. It isn't meant to replace email (which I will check more often, promise) There are things I'd say to you and JMW in emails that I would never discuss here. It's up to you.
