I've been blissfully unaware, until today, of the phenomenon known as `rickrolling,' which basically seems to be nothing less than an attempt to promote the world domination of Rick Astley's 1987 song `Never Gonna Give You Up.'
I wonder if Tim Berners Lee reads articles like this and thinks, `What have I done?'

Actually, this is the sort of unforeseen use of technology that we don't see often enough in science fiction. Proving, I guess, that the world'll always surprise you.
Back when `Never Gonna Give You Up' was actually in the charts over here (and I look back on `87 as a golden age, I really do) the best I could have said about it would have been that it was harmless in small doses. If you heard it once a month, that was okay. No doubt the perpetrators of this abomination believe they're dealing in postmodern irony. I charge them to get a book on postmodern irony and change their ways, before it's too late.

Sorry, but the world has finally cut loose from its moorings and gone sailing helplessly across the sky. According to the BBC, there was a Rick Astley flashmob event this evening at Liverpool Street Station. Good thing it wasn't at King's Cross.

That amazes me. People have too much time on their hands, if you ask me!

It's friday, it's a flashmob, it's fashionable. What can I tell you?

My take on this is that (as bad as that song was) it could be worse. Do you remember a few years back when it was all the rage among some netizens to trick people into visiting the Tubgirl site, or Goatse.cx?

If you haven't heard of either of those, it is truly a case of ignorance being bliss. Trust me on this!

A good point. Looked at that way, it could have been a lot worse. I've heard of Tubgirl and Goatse but never wanted to look (and if anyone else hasn't heard of them and fancies going to look, I'd caution you not to. Trust killingtime, ignorance really is bliss.)
