I may not be posting quite as much in the foreseeable future, because I've started work on Europe In Autumn again and I'm determined to get the damn thing finished this time.
I must have slept awkwardly last night because I woke up this morning feeling as though every muscle in my upper body was full of broken glass, so I haven't been able to do much work but I have been able to read through what there is of the book and sort of mentally gird my loins. I was surprised to see that some of it (although admittedly not a lot) is actually rather good, and I'm sort of worried I won't be able to get back up to that standard, but we'll see.
Anyway, at the moment it consists of about fifty-nine thousand words of bits and pieces and notes and stuff and I'm just going to keep writing until it's finished, however long it takes me. Please feel free to pester me about it; I may need some help getting going in the early stages. I'll keep you posted.

Hey, Hutch. I will miss you a lot when you are absent.

What is Europe in Autumn?

Bless you, K, but I'll still be here and I'll still be posting, just not so much. I don't get a lot of spare time to write, and I suspect I'm going to need all of it, so if I do fall silent for a couple of days I didn't want anyone getting worried.
Europe In Autumn is a novel I should have finished, for better or for worse, a very long time ago.
Big Hugs.

Cheering would be nice, I can't deny. I always like cheering. But I need people poking me with sharp sticks. I am woefully out of practice.
Actually, if I imagine you as a cheerleader, does that officially mean I'm depraved?

"But I need people poking me with sharp sticks."

True. And I have suggested as much to pds_lit. She is out in the yard sharpening whole effing treetrunks even as I type . . .

Subject: 2-cents worth...
Having had the honor of reading it in an earlier stage in our beloved Hutch's attempt to enlighten a non-writer like myself on the writer's journey, I humbly submit the following prods, pokes and/or picks:
1. The older woman, Madame I-can't-remember, deserves more page-time. She rocks.
2. The story ends about the time that I got interested in it.
3. Could you see it in your heart to make the protagonist perhaps an eency-weency bit more likable maybe, please?

I'll try and do at least some of that stuff. But the protagonist isn't meant to be likeable; just ordinary and rather dogged.
Big Hugs.

I gotta say that I, too, was speared in the heart by Lili's post about writing every day. I have been a writer since I was a child, but recently I've thought about it and said.... well... that must have been a phase. Right. A forty year phase. Anyway, I have been sufficiently prompted to take it seriously again. I am not a novelist (though I'd love to be, but that won't happen until I start writing) but I write non-fiction. I don't think it matters WHAT we write, as long as we write.

Just wanted to say that I feel your pain, and I support you completely. Now, again, are you writing now or is this a big Timesuck?

Not only do I have books which tell you how to poke people with pointy sticks, I even do it for fun!

However I think you are a bit far away. And it would be unsporting to not let you have your own pointy stick.
