They've found a piano buried in a cairn on Ben Nevis. Ben Nevis is Britain's highest mountain. Just sit and think about that for a moment. A piano.

How bizarre! Why would anyone think people'd be able to hear them if they were playing the piano at the top of Ben Nevis? They'd be far better off doing it somewhere like Liverpool Station, where audiences could hear and appreciate them properly.

Besides, in the cold thin air at the top of Ben Nevis you'd constantly be having to retune your piano. What a bore! The whole idea's preposterous!

What will they think of next?

You sound oddly unsurprised to hear this news. Admit it: you're the Phantom Pianist Of Ben Nevis, aren't you.

And todays little factoid- I climbed Ben Nevis when i was 8, with my dad. It was July, I think, and there was still a little bit of snow on the top. It took something like 4 hours.

Y'all have strange customs "on behalf of a charity" in England.

Oh yes, we certainly do. `For charity' does tend to excuse behaviour which would otherwise get you sectioned, such as sitting in a bath full of baked beans in the middle of a shopping centre.

Happens every year, and every year people get hurt. I think of it as an example of evolution in action.

Said cairns are often full of rubbish, says the article (paraphrasing). What is the POINT of that? do people haul their trash up the mountain because they can't find a bin down below? Oh, the English are an odd folk.

Indeed. I'm a very odd chap, in many ways, but I never hauled a piano up a mountain, for charity or any other reason.

Well, Ben Nevis is in that well known part of England called North Britain...
And Cairns are simply handy places to stuff the rubbish from your lunch when you eat at the top of the hill. Of course only stupid people do that, but there seem to be quite a few of them around, although I get the impression there are either fewer than there used to be, or more people are clearing up the rubbish, because I havn't seen much on the summits in the past decade.

was from 2006? I thought the story sounded familiar, it was unlikely there were 2 pianos up there.

Ah, bollocks, I never bothered to look at the date on the story. Thanks for pointing that out. Okay, everyone, old news. Many apologies. Forget I said anything.
